Un yakuza respecté, Kiryu, sort de prison après une peine de 10 ans. Une nuit caniculaire s'abat sur Tokyo. Il croise dans la rue la petite Haruka, et va l'aider à chercher sa mère. Mais ils vont être entraînés dans une spirale de violence entre les anciens « amis » de Kiryu qui veulent sa peau et Majima, un yakuza qui cherche 10 millions de yens disparus. Kiryu va devoir user de ses poings et de son esprit afin de rester en vie et démêler la vérité...
